"Principles are like prayers; noble, of course, but awkward at a party."
--The Dowager Countess of Grantham
Downton Abbey has started up again and as usual Maggie Smith's dry and sarcastic sense of humor had me chuckling. This is the quote of the week--a remark she made after a tense dinner involving a great deal of discussion on principles.
It reminds me of the advice I received as a teenager--in a new social situation never discuss politics or religion, because you may end up accidentally alienating someone!
